Phase One XF Camera

The foundation of a modern medium format system is custom built from the ground-up to deliver a camera that will exceed your expectations.

When the system works the same way that I work, it's like I’m shooting with a camera that was custom-built for me.
Paul Reiffer

The Phase One XF Camera System is designed to help the world’s most demanding photographers realise their vision in a new and extraordinary way.

At the heart of the system is an all new, totally in-house designed Phase One Camera Body; the XF.

Engineered from aero grade materials and utilising advanced electronics, the XF is set to take medium format into the next decade. Features like an intuitive OneTouch User Interface, an all-new, patent pending precision autofocus system, upgradeable OS, and full modularity ensure the platform is ready for the future.

What comprises a medium format system?

Phase One XF Camera Features

Digital back integration

The IQ4 and IQ3 series of digital backs from Phase One offer deep integration between back and body, and provides advanced camera control and workflow tools.

Vibration Delay mode

Using the built in seismograph, the camera can be set to only release the shutter once no vibration is detected. This is perfect for critical copy work or landscape photography.

Autofocus Recompose (AFr) mode

Using the 3D sensors built into the XF Camera System this feature allows you to lock focus on a subject and recompose naturally.

The camera will use a predictive algorithm to log and anticipate your movement adjusting the focus as you work, allowing you to nail focus even at extreme apertures.

Effortless Focus Trimming

An effortless automation tool to trim your lenses. The built-in analysis of the calibration conditions ensures everything is done with confidence and is provided with a customized focus calibration target.

Your choice of viewfinder

With a solid glass prism, the 90° viewfinder is the brightest of its kind and has virtually no loss of light. The prism viewfinder displays a perfect view of the scene with 100% frame coverage, and comes standard on all XF Camera Systems.

Alternatively the waist-level viewfinder is convenient for many styles of photography - be it in studio or on location. With the ability to retain the connection between photographer and model, or simply to attain a more effective working position, the waist-level finder is a great addition to the creative toolbox.

Complete button customisation

Four buttons and three dials can be programmed for your specific needs, and are within easy reach for tactile and fast operation without moving your eye from the viewfinder. Make the camera as complex or as simple as you need.

OneTouch top screen

OneTouch UI is inspired by clean, functional Scandinavian design and provides a seamless, fully customisable interface which allows the photographer to personalise their camera for any shooting situation.

Add quick access buttons, change the order of the tools, and hide what you don't need.

Save multiple camera profiles

Do you need different camera settings for different types of photography?

Set up custom tool shortcuts and button functions, then save them for quick access when required.

Profoto Air Remote built in

Fully connecting the XF Camera to any Profoto Air enable flash units, the built in remote can trigger and control up to six groups of Profoto lights.

Additionally the camera can be triggered remotely with a Profoto Air Remote, and use AirTTL for automatic flash exposure.

Focus Stack Tool and Calculator

With the Focus Stack tool you can set and save near and far focus points and have the camera automatically control the lens for the entire capture process. Once captured the images in the focus stack are saved as a sequence in Capture One for simple post processing.

Evaluating focusing distances, sensor resolution, and aperture, the Focus Stack Calculator automatically suggests the number of frames that should be captured to ensure you get precisely what you need for your final output.

Time-Lapse and HDR

The Time-Lapse tool helps automate the process of capturing a time-lapse, from calculation to capture, ensuring a smooth and optimised workflow.

The HDR tool captures the specified bracketed frames to improve the dynamic range. The individual captures are stored as a sequence for simple post-processing in Capture One.

Hyperfocal Point Calibration and Tool

Calibrate and save the hyperfocal point for each of your Phase One lenses. Use the Hyperfocal Point tool to quickly return the attached lens to its saved hyperfocal point for perfect front to back sharpness when you need it.

Phase One XF Digital Back Compatibility

The Phase One XF Camera System was released along with the Phase One IQ3 digital back series. As the IQ2, IQ1 and Leaf Credo series digital backs were released prior to the XF camera, some functionality is not possible to be enabled on these backs.

Note that the XF camera is not compatible with the Phase One P or P+ series digital backs or the Leaf Aptus or Aptus II series digital backs or earlier models.
