Distinguished by its high resolution, but also sporting a versatile feature-set, the Fujifilm GFX100S is a medium format mirrorless camera designed for a true multimedia workflow. Excelling with still photography applications, the 102MP 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor achieves impressive image quality with high sensitivity to a native ISO 12800 (102400 extended). Making use of the X Processor 4, the GFX100S is capable of outputting 16-bit raw imagery with a broad dynamic range and low noise levels.

102MP images made at the speed of a compact mirrorless camera achievable only on a larger than 35mm format sensor

Powered by FUJIFILM’s high-performance quad-core X-Processor 4 CPU, GFX100S utilises its 102 megapixel, back-illuminated large format CMOS sensor to deliver images with stunning quality. Compared to smaller, lower-resolution sensors commonly found in traditional full-frame DSLR and mirrorless cameras, GFX100S’ imaging sensor is approximately 1.7 times larger and is enhanced to be incredibly sensitive to light. This provides it with a significant advantage over smaller sensors when it comes to producing images with incredibly shallow depth of field, fantastic dynamic range, faithful colour reproduction, and outstanding high-ISO performance.

FUJIFILM’s expertise in colour science is legendary among image makers. For more than 86 years, FUJIFILM has been responsible for some of the world’s most iconic photographs and movies. GFX100S gives users access to a wealth of experience via the touch of a button, powered by one of the world’s most widely acclaimed digital colour processing engines. With a choice of 19 exclusive FUJIFILM Film Simulation modes, it is easy to achieve fantastic colour straight out of camera. GFX100S includes a new Film Simulation mode to explore - Nostalgic Neg. Reminiscent of American New Colour Photography, which emerged in the 1970s, Nostalgic Neg continues this movement by expanding the boundaries of photographic creativity through the purposeful use of colour. Its unique tonality adds an amber tone to highlights for a softer look and boosts saturations to shadows, while preserving details, to give a lyrical feel to images.

102MP BSI CMOS Sensor and X Processor 4
Utilizing a large and exceedingly high 102MP resolution 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor and X Processor 4, the GFX 100 is capable of delivering 16-bit stills with wide dynamic range as well as a broad sensitivity range of ISO 100-12800, which can be extended to ISO 50-102400. The large size of each pixel allows for more efficient light gathering, too, for smoother tonal and color transitions to produce a characteristic three-dimensional "medium format look." Also contributing to several medium format looks, a variety of traditional medium and large format aspect ratios can be used in addition to the standard 4:3, including 1:1, 65:24, 5:4, 7:6, 3:2, and 16:9.

The image processor and sensor also lend a versatile edge to the system, and permit shooting continuously up to 5 fps or for recording DCI and UHD 4K30 video.

High-performance mirrorless AF made for large format, even in low-light

Unlike many other large format and medium format cameras, on-sensor phase detection pixels cover almost 100% of GFX100S’ imaging sensor, unlocking a level of autofocus performance never before seen in large format digital photography. This means the camera can acquire focus in as little as 0.16 seconds, even in luminance levels as low as -5.5EV3, making it versatile, accurate and incredibly fast. Powered by X-Processor 4, the camera is also able to efficiently make use of an updated focus tracking algorithm to keep subjects in focus when using the Tracking AF and Face/ Eye AF functions.

Compact 5-axis In-Body Stabilisation delivering up to 6-stops of vibration reduction

GFX100S features a newly designed In-Body Image Stabilisation (IBIS) system, which dramatically broadens the capability of photographers to confidently create handheld images. Compared to the unit found in FUJIFILM GFX100, the IBIS mechanism inside of GFX100S is 20% smaller and 10% lighter. Despite the smaller size, the five-axis system provides 6-stops of CIPA-rated image stabilisation, a 0.5-stop improvement over GFX100.

High-performance designed for portability and to withstand the elements

At 900g and measuring 15cm wide, 10.4cm tall, and 8.7cm deep, GFX100S’ compact body is comparable in size to many full-frame cameras. Despite the compact size, it packs a high performance IBIS and a 102MP imaging sensor that is almost twice the physical size of a typical full-frame sensor. The GFX100S features a redesigned shutter unit and a brand-new IBIS unit, while powered by a smaller yet efficient lithium-ion battery. This results in a camera body that is approximately 6cm shorter and 500g lighter than the GFX100, while able to maintain the same level of stills and video performance. The reduced size of GFX100S is well-balanced by a highly robust grip, with a comfortable in-hand feel, which makes it exceptionally easy to hold for extended periods of time.

GFX100S is made to operate in temperatures as low as -10°C and is dust- and moisture-resistant. It is also constructed with a magnesium alloy casing that is purposely denser around the lens mount by 1mm compared to GFX100, which provides added support for larger G Mount lenses.

Intuitive controls for a familiar experience

GFX100S features controls that are familiar to both new and existing GFX System photographers. For example, a PASM dial, with six programmable custom options, provides quick and direct access to frequently used settings, while the switch, conveniently located next to the mode dial, allows users to quickly change between still and movie mode. An ergonomic update to the Focus Lever also makes choosing a focus point easy and smooth.

The camera features a 3.2-inch LCD display on the rear and a 1.8-inch sub LCD monitor on its top plate, which can be customised to show key EXIF settings like shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation. It can also display the status of key functions or available capacity on storage media. The 3.2-inch, touch-capable LCD display is a 2.36-million-dot monitor with 100% coverage that can be tilted in three directions (90° upward, 45° downward, and 60° rightward).

UHD and DCI 4K Video Recording
Utilizing the large sensor size for more than just stills, the GFX 100 also offers an enticing array of video capabilities, including internal UHD and DCI 4K30p video recording at 4:2:0 10-bit, as well as 4K30p 4:2:2 10-bit via HDMI output, both at up to 400 Mb/s-and simultaneous external and internal recording is possible. Greatly benefitting overall video performance, the speed of the quad-CPU X-Processor 4 enables fast read speeds when recording 4K video, which helps to reduce rolling shutter distortion when filming moving subjects.

In addition to the supported 10-bit color depth, the GFX 100 also includes the F-Log gamma setting, which provides a flat picture for use in advanced color grading software during editing. This maximizes the potential dynamic range in difficult scenes and image adjustments can be made, as well, to highlight tone, shadow tone, color, and sharpness.

Also, the camera features a 3.5mm microphone jack and 3.5mm headphone jack for more advanced audio solutions.

Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization
Built-in 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 5.5 stops. This system works in conjunction with any lens, including non-stabilized ones, and benefits working with slower shutter speeds and when working in difficult lighting conditions.

A larger than 35mm format system delivering smooth 4K/30P video

With its large format imaging sensor, GFX100S is capable of recording cinematic 4K/30p movies that feature incredibly shallow depth-of-field, impressive high-ISO performance, wide tonal gradation, and an unmatched overall image quality. Footage can be recorded at bit rates of 400Mbps at different quality levels, from 10-bit 4:2:0 F-log internally to an SD card, to 12-bit 4:2:2 ProRes RAW through the HDMI port.

In addition to being able to record 4k footage in a 16:9 aspect ratio, GFX100S supports a 17:9 aspect ratio, frequently used in digital cinemas. The most commonly used compression codecs, like H.264 and H.265 are also available. Additionally, professional standards, like the REC.2100 supported Hybrid Gamma Log (HLG), or F-Log can be selected for complete creative control.

Compared to using commonly available compression codecs, like H.264, recording footage in FLog or HLG gives filmmakers much more flexibility in post-production as footage is brought through the editing and colour-grading process, allowing users to make adjustments to the image’s luminance, colour saturation and many more attributes.

For maximum flexibility with image-based adjustments and colour-grading options, GFX100S can also record 4K/30P footage in 12-bit RAW, via HDMI, directly to an Atomos Ninja V Recording Monitor to later be output as ProRes RAW. This allows users to make post-product decisions around refining images. Users can also achieve simultaneous output of RAW footage and footage in FLog or Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) with a Film Simulation mode.
