Feature Update #8 Summary

Phase One continues to innovate, providing you with exciting new features and improvements for the cameras you already have. Feature Update #8 is the latest expansion of the IQ4 Infinity Platform, while also providing core updates to the XF body and XT body. The update will be available for download in early December.

Feature Update #8 includes:

• XF Camera performance enhancement
• CFexpress storage support
• Wifi access point
• 4k JPEG output
• External power integration
• Automatic exposure modes
• Customizable live view grids
• Dual Exposure+ (no longer beta)
• New Lab feature: ETTR

XF Camera - performance enhancement

In Feature Update #8, the XF gets a performance boost thanks to the combination of multiple component improvements. The tech guys at Phase One have "tightened" the timing of the process of capturing an image. By getting small improvements on all the things that need to happen when you press that shutter button to the shot being complete, the result is a faster, stronger and more agile XF Camera for any generation of IQ Digital Back.

Noticeable improvements include:

- Faster shutter button response
- Faster Auto-focus
- Faster capture rate (FPS) for applicable IQ digital backs.

XF Camera - External Shutter control

Some of the special features of the XF IQ4 combination like Frame Averaging and Dual Exposure+, can now be triggered using an external release.

XT Camera - Automatic metering

The XT Camera takes a leap forward by being the first field camera to offer Auto Exposure Modes Av, Tv, and P, as well as Auto ISO. Each exposure parameter can be fully controlled for excellent precision.

Each exposure parameter can be fully controlled while in live view. Additionally, Feature Update #8 also provides an update to communicate to the X-Shutter via external cable. The X-Shutter communication for XT Lenses remains unchanged while new lens solutions are now available through alternative vendors using the X-Shutter.

NB. The firmware update need to be run with each one of your lenses attached to the camera.

XT Camera - External Shutter control

Some of the special features of the XT IQ4 combination like Frame Averaging and Dual Exposure+, can now be triggered using an external release.

IQ4 - CFexpress Card Support

The IQ4 digital backs currently use XQD and SD storage cards. With the new Feature Update #8, we will be able to use CFexpress cards.

CFexpress cards provide:

- much faster transfer speeds (around 1700MB/s read and 1500MB/s write)
- greater capacity cards - up to 2TB currently (1TB maximum recommended)
- wider availability from multiple manufacturers

IQ4 - WiFi Access Point (Adhoc WiFi)

The IQ3 digital backs can have a WiFi signal broadcast from the back that you can connect your iPhone or iPad to and use Capture pilot.

The IQ4 WiFi access will allow us to connect directly from a computer for camera control, image transfer, and remote capture.

A Mobile App will will available in the near future.

IQ4 - External power integration

The IQ4 can now be powered from an external USB-C powerbank like the HyperJuice 130W USB-C battery or even a simple phone powerbank.

IQ4 - 4K JPEG

The IQ4 can now be set to produce a JPG (4K in size) via Capture One Inside. If you just need some quick JPGs, this is a great feature. The JPG files are processed directly from the RAW, they adopts IQ Styles for expedited workflow option.

IQ4 - Customisable Live View Grids

Feature Update #8 introduces customisable Live View Grid offering the ability to place and save guides to help align composition to your specific needs.

IQ4 - Lab Feature - Expose to the Right (ETTR)

A new test feature in Feature Update #8 includes Expose to the Right (ETTR) offers a unique approach to “Auto” exposure. Images are captured with as much highlight data as possible just before highlights are clipped.

The simple implementation of this new feature provides a single button that captures an image with as much highlight data as possible just before highlights are clipped. This results in a “highlight priority” exposure to ensure a retention of highlight data and a maximising of Dynamic Range for the scene captured.
