The Future of Color Rendition – the Standard? TM-30 was introduced with the intention to provide a new way of measuring light fidelity and help users analyze the color characteristics of both modern and traditional solid-state light sources. This brings greater fairness and accuracy of the measurement.
More on TM-30 standards:
TM-30-18 is a new IES standard for reviewing and selecting color for LED lights. TM030-18 creates a test color sample from 99 different colors and reports the 99 results categorised into hue bins that are shown in a 16-section Color Vector Graphic.
TM-30-18 Rf is the Fidelity score. Unlike CRI referencing the sun from 9 color reference points, Fidelity (Rf) references a perfect reference color, with a score of 100 being an exact match to the reference color.
With a TM-30-18 Rf score of 98, the Phase One D8 R+ LED panel rates highly.
TM-30-18 Rg is the Gamut score. The Gamut (Rg) score references color saturation and allows for scores to exceed 100 reflecting an increased saturation of color when a Gamut (Rg) score exceeds 100. Gamut (Rg) scores can range from 80 to 100 to reflect under or over-saturation of colors.
TM-30-18 is likely to replace CRI as a measure of light quality in future, but for now, both remain relevant.
Needless to say the scores for the D8 R+ LED panel are excellent regardless of the measurements used, as shown in the white paper below.
